Fact or fiction?
Yes it is possible! Under certain conditions:
Large pores?
This is partly due to your genetics and age, and partly to your skincare routine. For example, if you don't cleanse in the evening, your pores will enlarge. Large pores are caused by increased sebum production.
How to reduce?
Creams can't actually shrink pores, but a good routine can help reduce the amount of sebum that remains in the pores, preventing them from opening up as much.
For example, if you have very oily skin, you're better off looking for a treatment that helps with excess sebum. There are certain ingredients and treatments that can help reduce or prevent large (or enlarged) pores.
What to do?
- use a mild cleanser: all our gel cleansers are mild.
- Never skip cleansing, the sebum must be removed from your pores in the evening
- Use an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and sebum. Preferably one based on salicylic acid (BHA). This will reduce blackheads and actually shrink pores.
- Use niacinamide in your skincare: Research has shown that a product containing at least 2% niacinamide also helps with excess sebum. Pores will become less clogged and skin will become less shiny.
- Include antioxidants in your skincare. These protect the skin from damage and also prevent sebum from oxidizing in the pores and turning black. Examples of antioxidants include vitamins C and E.
- light therapy is also good for your pores
